COURT CIRCULAR

Windsor Castle

Sir Hugh Roberts was received by The Queen this afternoon upon relinquishing his appointment as Director of the Royal Collection and Surveyor of The Queen’s Works of Art when Her Majesty appointed him Surveyor Emeritus of The Queen’s Works of Art and invested him with the Insignia of a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Chancellor, University of Cambridge, this morning opened the Hauser Forum, Charles Babbage Road, Cambridge.

His Royal Highness afterwards presented the Polar Medal at the British Antarctic Survey, High Cross, Madingley Road, Cambridge, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire (Mr. Hugh Duberly).

The Duke of Edinburgh, President and Life Member, Windsor Park Equestrian Club, was represented by Brigadier Clive Robertson (Extra Equerry to His Royal Highness) at the Thanksgiving Service for the Life of Lieutenant Colonel Frank Beale (formerly Vice-President, Windsor Park Equestrian Club) which was held in St. Mary and St. Melor Abbey Church, Amesbury, Wiltshire, today.

Buckingham Palace

The Duke of York, Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, today carried out the following engagements in Astana, Kazakhstan.

His Royal Highness this morning attended a Meeting with representatives of the BG Group.

The Duke of York afterwards attended a Meeting with representatives of Shell.

His Royal Highness later attended a Meeting with Mr. Kairat Kelimbetov (Chairman of Samruk Kazyna).

The Duke of York this afternoon called upon Mr. Sauat Munbayev (Minister for Oil and Gas).

His Royal Highness afterwards attended a Luncheon given by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Duke of York was received later by The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

His Royal Highness this evening attended a Reception with the British business community.

Buckingham Palace

The Earl of Wessex, President, Central Council of Physical Recreation, this morning held a Meeting at Buckingham Palace.

His Royal Highness, Trustee, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award International Foundation, later held a Meeting at Buckingham Palace.

The Earl of Wessex, Commodore-in-Chief, Royal Fleet Auxiliary, this evening attended the Worshipful Company of Fuellers’ Twenty Fifth Anniversary Banquet at Mansion House, London EC4.

Kensington Palace

The Duke of Gloucester, with Duchess of Gloucester, Patron, Scottish Opera, this evening attended a performance of “la Bohème” at Edinburgh Festival Theatre, 13-29 Nicolson Street, Edinburgh.

St James’s Palace

The Duke of Kent this afternoon visited Polehampton Church of England Infant School, Hermitage Drive, Twyford, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire (the Hon. Mrs. Bayliss).

His Royal Highness later visited Greenham Common Trust, Liberty House, the Enterprise Centre, New Greenham Park, near Newbury, Berkshire.

Appendix to Court Circular

The Queen has been pleased to appoint Mr. Rufus Bird Deputy Surveyor of The Queen’s Works of Art on the promotion of Mr. Jonathan Marsden to Director of the Royal Collection and Surveyor of The Queen’s Works of Art. The appointment to take effect from 7th June, 2010.

Her Majesty has also been pleased to appoint Miss Jemima Rellie Director of Publishing and New Media at the Royal Collection. The appointment to take effect from 11th May, 2010.
