COURT CIRCULAR

Buckingham Palace

The Queen, Colonel-in-Chief, Grenadier Guards, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, Colonel, this morning presented new Colours to 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards at Buckingham Palace and was received by the Regimental Lieutenant Colonel (Brigadier David Maddan) and Major Grant Baker (Regimental Adjutant).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were received on the Terrace Steps with a Royal Salute and The Queen inspected the Battalion in the garden of Buckingham Palace.

Following the presentation, Her Majesty was graciously pleased to address the Battalion and the Regimental Lieutenant Colonel replied.

1st Battalion Grenadier Guards subsequently marched past The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness this afternoon attended a Reception with the Grenadier Guards at Wellington Barracks, Birdcage Walk, London SW1, and were received by the Regimental Lieutenant Colonel.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh met serving Guardsmen and their families and members of the First Guards’ Club and the Regimental Association.

Mr. Stephen Brady (Official Secretary to the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia) was received later by Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace.

The Queen held a Council at 5.00 p.m..

There were present: the Lord Mandelson (Lord President), the Rt. Hon. Jack Straw (Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor), the Rt. Hon. David Lammy (Minister of State, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills) and the Rt. Hon. Christopher Geidt (Private Secretary to The Queen).

Miss Judith Simpson was in attendance as Clerk of the Council.

The Lord Mandelson had an audience of Her Majesty before the Council.

The Rt Hon Gordon Brown had an audience of The Queen this evening and tendered his resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury which Her Majesty was graciously pleased to accept.

Mrs Brown was also received by The Queen.

Her Majesty subsequently received in audience the Rt Hon David Cameron and requested him to form a new Administration.

The Rt Hon David Cameron accepted The Queen’s offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.

Mrs Cameron was also received by Her Majesty.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Colonel, Grenadier Guards, this afternoon attended a Lunch at Wellington Barracks, Birdcage Walk, London SW1.

Clarence House

The Prince of Wales, President, this morning visited the Royal College of Music, Prince Consort Road, London SW7, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (Sir David Brewer).

His Royal Highness, President, this evening held a Dinner at Clarence House for the Turquoise Mountain Foundation.

Buckingham Palace

The Duke of York, Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, this afternoon arrived at Farnborough International Airport from Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Alastair Watson and Squadron Leader Charlotte Fenn RAF were in attendance.

Buckingham Palace

The Earl of Wessex this morning named the Sail Training Yacht ALEXANDER FAIREY for the Alexander Fairey Memorial Fund Discovery Sailing Project at Universal Marina, Crableck Lane, Sarisbury Green, Southampton, and were received by Mr. Nigel Atkinson (Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire).

His Royal Highness, Trustee, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, this afternoon took part in the Royalist Regatta in Portsmouth Harbour.

The Earl of Wessex, Trustee, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, this evening attended a Dinner at Boathouse 7, Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth Harbour, and were received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire (Dame Mary Fagan).

Buckingham Palace

The Princess Royal, Honorary Fellow, the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, this morning attended the International Naval Engineering Conference and Exhibition at HM Naval Base, Portsmouth, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire (Dame Mary Fagan).

Her Royal Highness, Patron, afterwards visited a showcase event of Catch 22 services in Hampshire at Acorn Business Centre, Northarbour Road, Portsmouth.

The Princess Royal this afternoon visited the Royal Grammar School, High Street, Guildford, to commemorate its Five Hundredth Anniversary, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey (Mrs. Timothy Goad).

Her Royal Highness, President, Save the Children UK, this evening held a Dinner at Buckingham Palace.

Kensington Palace

The Duke of Gloucester this morning officially opened St. Aidan’s Church of England Academy, Hundens Lane, Darlington, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of County Durham (Sir Paul Nicholson).

His Royal Highness later officially opened Hardwick Park, Sedgefield.

The Duke of Gloucester this afternoon visited the newly renovated Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle.

St James’s Palace

The Duke of Kent, Colonel, Scots Guards, this morning attended the presentation of new Colours to 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards by The Queen at Buckingham Palace.

His Royal Highness, President, this evening attended a fundraising Dinner at the Royal Institution of Great Britain, 21 Albemarle Street, London W1.

Thatched House Lodge, Richmond Park

Princess Alexandra, Patron, Children and Families Across Borders, this afternoon visited the preview of the International World Market at Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street, London W8.

Her Royal Highness, Patron, Florence Nightingale Museum Trust, this evening officially re-opened the Museum at Gassiot House, 2 Lambeth Palace Road, London SE1.
