Buckingham Palace

Mr Nicolas Adamson was received by The Queen this afternoon upon relinquishing his appointment as Private Secretary to The Duke of Kent.

Her Majesty received the Bishop of Bradford (the Right Reverend Nicholas Baines) who did homage upon his appointment.

The Rt Hon Kenneth Clarke MP (Lord Chancellor) administered the Oath.

The Bishop of Guildford (Clerk of the Closet) was in attendance.

Ms Julie Chappell was received in audience by The Queen and kissed hands upon her appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Guatemala.

The following were received in audience by The Queen upon their appointment as British High Commissioners: Mr Fergus Cochrane-Dyet (Republic of Malawi), Mr Andrew Pocock (Canada) and Ms Jacqueline Barson (Papua New Guinea).

Mrs Cochrane-Dyet and Mrs Pocock were also received by Her Majesty.

The Queen held a Council at 5.30 pm.

The Rt Hon Sir Peter Tomlinson, the Rt Hon Dame Jill Black, the Lord Emslie and the Rt Hon Sir Peter Gross were sworn in as members of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council.

Miss Judith Simpson was in attendance as Clerk of the Council.

The Rt Hon Nicholas Clegg MP had an audience of Her Majesty before the Council.

The Rt Hon David Cameron MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) had an audience of The Queen this evening.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Colonel-in-Chief, Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, this morning received Lieutenant General Andrew Figgures upon relinquishing his appointment as Colonel Commandant and Major General Ken Ferguson upon assuming this appointment.

His Royal Highness, President, City and Guilds of London Institute, afterwards presented The Prince Philip Medal at Buckingham Palace and subsequently attended a Luncheon at the Ritz London, 150 Piccadilly, London W1.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Permanent Master, the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights, this evening installed The Prince of Wales as Prime Warden at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London SE10, and subsequently attended a Dinner.

The Prince of Wales, President, the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest of Natural Beauty, this morning held a Meeting.

His Royal Highness, Patron, this afternoon held a Reception for Penny Brohn Cancer Care.

The Prince of Wales this evening was installed as Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London SE10, and subsequently attended a Dinner.

The Duchess of Cornwall, Patron, Hastings and St Leonards Veterans Association, this morning attended a Service and laid a wreath to commemorate the contribution of Commonweatlh servicemen at Hastings Cemetery and Crematorium, the Ridge, Hastings, followed by a Reception at the Royal Victoria Hotel, St Leonards-on-Sea, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex (Mr Peter Field).

Her Royal Highness, Patron, the Plumpton College Charitable Foundation, this afternoon visited Plumpton College, Ditchling Road, Plumpton, and was received by Mr David Allam (Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex).

The Duchess of Cornwall later visited Charleston House, Firle, Lewes, to mark the Twenty Fifth Anniversary of the opening of the House to the public and was received by Mr Charles Anson (Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex).

The Duke of York this morning received Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Japan (Mr David Warren).

His Royal Highness, Patron, Seamen’s Hospital Society, this afternoon received Mr Peter Coulson (General Secretary).

The Duke of York, Patron, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, received Mr R. Hurd (Chief Executive), Mr Michael Thompson (Appeal Chairman), Mrs R. Stolarski (Head of Fundraising) and Professor Timothy Briggs (Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Joint Medical Director).

His Royal Highness, Freeman, the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights, this evening attended the Installation of The Prince of Wales as Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London SE10, and subsequently attended a Dinner.

The Earl of Wessex, Trustee, this afternoon met groups involved in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Bangholm Outdoor Centre, 23 Craighall Gardens, Edinburgh, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh (Councillor George Grubb, the Rt Hon the Lord Provost).

His Royal Highness later attended the Kirking of the Scottish Parliament in St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh.

The Princess Royal, Patron, Townswomen’s Guilds, this morning attended the Women of Vision Conference at Newark Town Hall, Market Place, Newark, and was received by Commander Judith Swann (Deputy Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire).

Her Royal Highness, Master, the Worshipful Company of Butchers, accompanied by Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence, this evening attended the Installation of The Prince of Wales as Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London SE10, and subsequently attended a Dinner.

The Duke of Gloucester, Grand Prior, the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, today attended the Grand Council Meeting at the Crowne Plaza London-St James Hotel, 45-51 Buckingham Gate, London SW1.

St James’s Palace

The Duke of Kent this morning visited the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, Station Road, Havenstreet, Ryde, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Isle of Wight (Major General Martin White).

His Royal Highness, President, the Scout Association, this afternoon attended a Luncheon at Haseley Manor, Arreton.

The Duke of Kent later visited GKN Aerospace Composites Research Centre, Ferry Road, East Cowes.

Princess Alexandra, Patron, Fairbridge, this evening attended the Film and Animation Awards at the London Imax Cinema, Charlie Chaplin Walk, London SE1.
