Buckingham Palace 

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh gave a Reception at Buckingham Palace this afternoon for Heads of State and Government attending the Opening Ceremony of the XXX Olympic Games.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Henry of Wales, The Duke of York, accompanied by Princess Beatrice of York and Princess Eugenie of York, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke and Duchess of Kent, and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent were present.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh this evening arrived at the Olympic Stadium, Stratford, London E20, and were received by the Chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (the Lord Coe) and the President of the International Olympic Committee (Count Rogge).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness viewed the Opening Ceremony of the Games and the Parade of Athletes, before The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, opened the XXX Olympic Games and viewed the lighting of the cauldron by the Olympic Flame.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Henry of Wales, The Duke of York, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke and Duchess of Kent, and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent also attended.

The Lord Petre (Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Essex) was present at Stansted Airport today upon the Arrival of The President of the Czech Republic, The President of the Federal Republic of Germany and The President of the Slovak Republic and welcomed Their Excellencies on behalf of The Queen.

Wing Commander Michael Dudgeon (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London) was present at Heathrow Airport, London, today upon the Arrival of The President of the Republic of Bulgaria, The President of the Republic of Finland, The President of the Republic of Hungary and The President of the Portuguese Republic and welcomed Their Excellencies on behalf of Her Majesty.

Mr Nigel Atkinson (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire) was present at Farnborough Airport today upon the Arrival of The President of the Republic of Montenegro and welcomed His Excellency on behalf of The Queen.

Sir Kenneth Knight (Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London) was present at Royal Air Force Northolt today upon the Arrival of The Queen of Denmark and welcomed Her Majesty on behalf of The Queen.

Lady Bennett (Deputy Lieutenant of West Sussex) was present at Gatwick Airport, London, today upon the Arrival of The President of the Commonwealth of Dominica and welcomed His Excellency on behalf of The Queen.

Clarence House

The Prince of Wales this morning received Mr Howard Graham Buffett (President, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation) and Mr Howard Warren Buffett (Executive Director).

His Royal Highness, Founder and President, The Prince’s Foundation for Building Community, held a Meeting at Clarence House.

The Prince of Wales this afternoon received the Rt Hon David Cameron MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury).

His Royal Highness, Colonel-in-Chief, The Mercian Regiment, received Lieutenant Colonel Colin Marks upon relinquishing his appointment as Commanding Officer, 2nd Battalion, and Lieutenant Colonel Paul Gilby upon assuming the appointment, and Lieutenant Colonel Giles Woodhouse upon relinquishing his appointment as Commanding Officer, 3rd Battalion, and Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Davies upon assuming the appointment.

Major General Andrew Sharpe (Colonel, The Mercian Regiment) was present.

The Prince of Wales, President, Business in the Community, received Princess Badiya El Hassan of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan who is relinquishing her appointment as Chairman of Mosaic.

Buckingham Palace 

The President of the Republic of Gabon this morning called upon The Duke of York.

The President of Mongolia called upon His Royal Highness.

The Chief Minister of Nagaland today called upon The Duke of York.

His Royal Highness this afternoon received the Prime Minister of Algeria.

The Duke of York received Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Buckingham Palace

The Princess Royal, Member, International Olympic Committee, and President, British Olympic Association, today attended the XXX Olympic Games.

Her Royal Highness, President, British Olympic Association, this afternoon visited temporary accommodation for Olympic Armed Forces security personnel at Tobacco Dock, London E1.

Kensington Palace 

The Duke of Gloucester, Patron, Scottish Society of Architect Artists, this morning visited the Summer Exhibition at the House of an Art Lover, Bellahouston Park, 10 Dumbreck Road, Glasgow, and was received by Dr Rajan Madhok (Deputy Lieutenant of the City of Glasgow).

His Royal Highness, Honorary Fellow, the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, afterwards visited Shettleston Housing Association Headquarters, 65 Pettigrew Street, Glasgow.

The Duke of Gloucester, Joint President, this afternoon visited the Cancer Research UK Formulation Unit at Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Science, Strathclyde University, 161 Cathedral Street, Glasgow.

The Duchess of Gloucester this morning took the salute at the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment Balaklava Kit Ride at Hyde Park Barracks, London SW7.
