Buckingham Palace

The President of the People’s Republic of China and Madame Peng Liyuan this morning visited Imperial College London, London SW7, and were received by The Duke of York, the Rt Hon George Osborne MP (Chancellor of the Exchequer), Professor Alice Gast (President of Imperial College London) and Professor James Stirling (Provost).

Their Excellencies, accompanied by His Royal Highness, visited the Data Sciences Institute and the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery, attending presentations on research and collaborations with Chinese partners and meeting students and staff.

The President of the People’s Republic of China and Madame Peng Liyuan afterwards visited the Creative Collaborations: UK and China Event at Lancaster House, London SW1, and were received by The Duke of Cambridge, President, British Academy of Film and Television Arts, and The Duchess of Cambridge, the Rt Hon John Whittingdale MP (Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport), Mr Edward Vaizey MP (Minister of State, Department for Culture, Media and Sport (Digital Industries), jointly with Department for Business, Innovation and Skills) and Ms Amanda Berry (Chief Executive, British Association of Film and Television Arts).

The President and Madame Peng Liyuan viewed Showcases presented by United Kingdom and Chinese media, entertainment and arts organisations and observed musical and theatrical performances.

The President of the People’s Republic of China this afternoon visited No 10 Downing Street and was entertained to Luncheon by the Prime Minister and subsequently had talks with the Prime Minister on behalf of Her Majesty’s Government.

The President of the People’s Republic of China later visited the United Kingdom-China Business Summit, Mansion House, London EC4, and was received by the Rt Hon the Lord Mayor (Alderman Alan Yarrow), Mr Jiang Zengwei (Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade) and the Lord Sassoon (Chairman of China-British Business Council).

The President met Chief Executive Officers and Chairmen of United Kingdom and Chinese companies and witnessed the signing of trade agreements.

His Excellency delivered an Address.

The President of the People’s Republic of China afterwards visited Huawei Technologies United Kingdom Limited, 99 Bishopsgate, London EC2, and was received by Mr Zhengfei Ren (Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Huawei) and the Lord O’Neill of Gatley (Commercial Secretary to the Treasury).

The President viewed a display reflecting China-UK co-operation, employee activities and joint-innovation with United Kingdom partners and addressed those present.

The President of the People’s Republic of China and Madame Peng Liyuan this evening received an Address of Welcome and were entertained at a Banquet by the Rt Hon the Lord Mayor and the City of London Corporation at Guildhall.

The Duke of York was present.

Madame Peng Liyuan this afternoon visited Fortismere College, Tetherdown, London N10.

His Excellency the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia (General the Hon Sir Peter Cosgrove) was received by The Queen today.

Lady Cosgrove was also received by Her Majesty.

The Rt Hon Sir Vincent Cable was received by The Queen upon relinquishing his appointment as Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.

The Rt Hon Alistair Carmichael MP was received by Her Majesty upon relinquishing his appointment as Secretary of State for Scotland.

The following were received in audience by The Queen and kissed hands upon their appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassadors: Mr Timothy Morris (the Republic of South Sudan), Mr Graham Zebedee (the Democratic Republic of the Congo), Mr Edmund Fitton-Brown (the Republic of Yemen) and Miss Catherine Arnold (Mongolia).

Mrs Morris, Ms Lucy Ryan and Mrs Fitton-Brown were also received by Her Majesty.

The Rt Hon David Cameron MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) had an audience of The Queen this evening.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Senior Fellow, Royal Academy of Engineering, this evening attended the New Fellows’ Dinner at Drapers’ Hall, Throgmorton Street, London EC2.

The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay, President, this evening held a Dinner for The Prince’s Charities Canada at Dumfries House, Cumnock, Ayrshire.

The Duchess of Cornwall, President, the Brooke Hospital for Animals, this afternoon attended a demonstration of horse-whispering techniques by Mr Monty Roberts (Global Ambassador) at Buckingham Palace.

Her Royal Highness this evening attended a Reception to mark the Anniversary of the Birth of Oscar Wilde, the Langham Hotel, 1c Portland Place, Regent Street, London W1, and was received by Major Christopher Goodwin (Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London).

The Duke of Cambridge this morning received Mr Yuan Yafei (Chairman, Sanpower).

The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Henry of Wales, Joint Patrons, the Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, this evening attended the Autumn Dinner at Sunbeam Studios, Ladbroke Hall, 79 Barlby Road, London W10.

The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron, National Portrait Gallery, this afternoon received Dr Nicholas Cullinan upon assuming his appointment as Director.

Her Royal Highness, Patron, Action on Addiction, received Mr Nick Barton upon relinquishing his appointment as Chief Executive and Mr. Graham Beech upon assuming the appointment.
