Windsor Castle
Today is the Ninetieth Anniversary of the Birthday of The Queen.
The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, walked through Windsor town centre today to mark Her Majesty’s Birthday.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh left the Castle by Henry VIII Gateway and were received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire (Mr. James Puxley) and the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (Councillor Eileen Quick).
Her Majesty and His Royal Highness walked along Castle Hill to the junction of High Street and Peascod Street, where The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were received by Mr. Hugo Vickers (Trustee, the Outdoor Trust) and Her Majesty unveiled a commemorative panel of The Queen’s Walkway.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh then walked to the Corn Exchange and met local residents also celebrating their Ninetieth Birthdays this year.
Her Majesty and His Royal Highness subsequently returned to the Castle in the State Review Vehicle via High Street and Peascod Street and were received in the Quadrangle with a Royal Salute given by the Military Knights of Windsor.
Her Majesty’s Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms were on duty at the Sovereign’s Entrance.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh this evening drove to Cambridge Gate, Home Park, Windsor, for the lighting of Her Majesty’s Ninetieth Birthday Beacon and were received by Mr. Bruno Peek (Pageantmaster).
The Prince of Wales, accompanied by The Duchess of Cornwall, passed the torch to The Queen and invited Her Majesty to light the beacon in the Great Park, Windsor, to celebrate her Ninetieth Birthday before viewing three more beacons being lit in the Great Park.
Afterwards The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh met Air and Army cadets and had a brief walkabout before returning to the Castle.
The Duke of Edinburgh, Colonel-in-Chief, 1st Battalion The Rifles (formerly The Duke of Edinburgh’s Royal Regiment, Berkshire and Wiltshire), was represented by General Sir Kevin O’Donoghue (formerly Colonel of The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment) at the Service of Thanksgiving for Brigadier Bill Mackereth (formerly Colonel of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Royal Regiment, Berkshire and Wiltshire) which was held in the Parish Church of St. Thomas and St. Edmund, Salisbury, Wiltshire, this afternoon.
The Lord Petre (Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Essex) was present at Stansted Airport, London, this evening upon the Arrival of The President of the United States of America and welcomed The President on behalf of The Queen.
Kensington Palace
Prince Henry of Wales, Patron, Rugby Football Union Injured Players Foundation, this morning visited Hobbs Rehabilitation Centre, Bridgets Lane, Martyr Worthy, Hampshire.
Buckingham Palace
The Princess Royal, Patron, Royal Lymington Yacht Club, this morning opened the new Yacht Club pontoons, Bath Road, Lymington, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire (Mr. Nigel Atkinson).
Her Royal Highness, Patron, Royal National Children’s Foundation, this afternoon visited King Edward’s School, Witley, Petworth Road, Wormley, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey (Mr. Michael More- Molyneux).
