COURT CIRCULAR

Palace of Holyroodhouse

The Queen arrived at Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station this morning and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh (Councillor Donald Wilson, the Rt Hon the Lord Provost).

Her Majesty drove to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and this afternoon The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were received in the Forecourt by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh and members of the City of Edinburgh Council, when the Rt Hon the Lord Provost surrendered to The Queen the Keys of the City, which Her Majesty returned to him.

A Guard of Honour found by A Company, The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, under the command of Major Douglas Watson, was mounted in the Forecourt.

Afterwards Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were received inside the Palace by the Hereditary Keeper (the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon).

The Duke of Edinburgh, Royal Colonel, this morning visited The Highlanders, 4th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland at Bourlon Barracks, Catterick, North Yorkshire.

Clarence House

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall this morning departed Royal Air Force Northolt for France and were received later upon arrival at Albert-Picardie Airport, Méaulte, by Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the French Republic (His Excellency Sir Julian King).

Their Royal Highnesses today attended the United Kingdom National Commemoration Service at the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, Rue de l’Ancre, Thiepval, marking the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme and were received by The President of the French Republic.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall this afternoon attended the Somme Association Service of Commemoration at Ulster Memorial Tower, Thiepval, marking the Centenary of the Action of the 36th (Ulster) Division during the Battle of the Somme and were received by The Duke of Gloucester, Honorary President, the Somme Association.

Their Royal Highnesses afterwards attended the Canadian National Ceremony of Remembrance marking the Centenary of the Battles of the Somme and Beaumont-Hamel, at the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial, Rue de l’Eglise, Beaumont-Hamel.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall later visited Carnoy Military Cemetery, Somme.

Their Royal Highnesses this evening arrived at Royal Air Force Brize Norton from France.

Mr Clive Alderton, Mr Julian Payne, Miss Eva Omaghomi, Mrs Sophia Densham and Major Harry Pilcher were in attendance.

Kensington Palace

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Henry of Wales this morning officially opened an extension to the Visitor Centre at the Thiepval Memorial, France.

Their Royal Highnesses today attended the United Kingdom National Commemoration Service at the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, Rue de l’Ancre, Thiepval, marking the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme and were received by The President of the French Republic.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Henry of Wales this afternoon arrived at Royal Air Force Marham from France.

Mr Miguel Head, Miss Rebecca Deacon, Mr Edward Lane Fox and Lieutenant Commander James Benbow were in attendance.

Buckingham Palace

The Duke of York, on behalf of The Queen, this afternoon attended a Service to commemorate the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme in Manchester Cathedral and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester (Mr Warren Smith).

His Royal Highness, Visitor, this evening attended a Dinner to mark the Centenary of the Battle of Jutland at Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, Ipswich, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk (the Countess of Euston).

Buckingham Palace

The Earl of Wessex, Trustee, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, this morning attended a Trustees’ Meeting at Swan House, Madeira Walk, Windsor, Berkshire.

The Countess of Wessex, Royal Colonel, 5th Battalion The Rifles, this morning attended a Remembrance Parade at Allanbrooke Barracks, Paderborn, Germany, marking the Battalion’s departure from Germany and the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme.

Mr Timothy Roberts was in attendance.

Buckingham Palace

The Princess Royal today carried out the following engagements in St John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

Her Royal Highness, Grand Master, the Royal Victorian Order, and President, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conferences, this morning attended a Reception for Canadian Members of both organisations at Government House, Military Road, and was received by the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador (the Hon Mr Frank Fagan).

The Princess Royal, Colonel-in-Chief, Royal Newfoundland Regiment, later attended the National Ceremony of Remembrance at the National War Memorial, Water Street, marking the Centenary of the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel.

Her Royal Highness, Colonel-in-Chief, Royal Newfoundland Regiment, this afternoon attended the Dedication Ceremony of the Fortis Amphitheatre and Courtyard before opening the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Gallery and attending a Reception at the Rooms, Bonaventure Avenue.

The Princess Royal afterwards laid a wreath at the Commonwealth War Graves Memorial, Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Her Royal Highness, Commodore-in-Chief, Royal Canadian Navy (Pacific Fleet), subsequently attended a Reception onboard HMCS St John’s in St John’s Harbour.

The Princess Royal this evening attended a Dinner at Government House with the Governor General of Canada (the Rt Hon David Johnston) given by the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Her Royal Highness later departed St John’s International Airport for the United Kingdom.

The Duke of Kent, President, this morning took the salute at the parade on Grand Day at The Duke of York’s Royal Military School, Dover, Kent.

Buckingham Palace

Princess Alexandra this evening attended a Gala Concert and Dinner at the Yehudi Menuhin School, Millfield Lodge, Cobham Road, Stoke D’Abernon, Cobham, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey (Mr Michael More-Molyneux).
