COURT CIRCULAR

Buckingham Palace

The King spoke to the Hon Anthony Albanese, MP (Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia) via telephone this morning.

The King and Queen today attended a Service of Thanksgiving in Westminster Abbey, London SW1, to mark the Eightieth Anniversary of VE Day and were received by the Dean (the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle) and Chapter.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and The Duke of Kent were present.

Before the Service The King and The Prince of Wales laid wreaths at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior.

After the Service Their Majesties and other Members of the Royal Family met veterans of the Second World War.

The Queen, accompanied by The King, subsequently laid flowers at the Innocent Victims’ Memorial outside the Great West Door.

Miss Jane Graham was received by The King this afternoon upon relinquishing her appointment as Deputy Keeper of the Privy Purse.

His Majesty afterwards received Ms Ruth Davis (United Kingdom Special Representative for Nature).

The King and Queen this evening attended a Celebratory Concert on Horse Guards Parade, London SW1, to conclude the National Commemorations for the Eightieth Anniversary of VE Day and were received by Mr William Macfarlane (Director General of Major Strategy and Events, Department for Culture, Media and Sport) and Mr Zai Bennett (Chief Executive Officer and Chief Creative Officer of British Broadcasting Corporation Studios).

The Prince and Princess of Wales, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester also attended.

The King was represented by Sir Edward Bolitho (His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall) at a Celebration of the Life of Sir Richard Carew Pole, Bt (Trustee of the Eden Project and Tate St Ives) which was held in Truro Cathedral this afternoon.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Patron, the British Paralympic Association, this afternoon received Professor Nick Webborn upon relinquishing his appointment as Chairman and Mr Daniel Brooke upon assuming the appointment.

The Princess Royal, President, the City and Guilds of London Institute, this morning received Dame Ann Limb (Chairman of the Council) and Ms Kirstie Donnelly (Chief Executive Officer).

Kensington Palace

The Duke of Gloucester and The Duchess of Gloucester, Patron, Friends of St Paul’s Cathedral, this afternoon attended Evensong commemorating the Eightieth Anniversary of VE Day in St Paul’s Cathedral, London EC4.
