The King was represented by the Lord Hope of Craighead KT at the Memorial Service for the Rt Hon Sir George Reid KT which was held at Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh, today.
The Princess Royal was represented by Mrs Charles Ritchie.
St James’s Palace
The Duke of Edinburgh this morning visited the Optoelectronic Research Centre, University of Southampton, University Road, Southampton, and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire (Mr Nigel Atkinson).
His Royal Highness this afternoon opened the South Coast Institute of Technology Wing at the Centre of Excellence for Composites, Advanced Manufacturing and Marine, Cowes, and was received by Dr Nicholas England (Deputy Lieutenant of Isle of Wight).
The Duke of Edinburgh, Patron, afterwards visited Brading Roman Villa Trust, Morton Old Road, Brading, Sandown, and was received by Mr Nicholas Oulton (Deputy Lieutenant of Isle of Wight).
His Royal Highness later visited Brading Youth and Community Centre, High Street, Brading, and was received by Mrs Katherine Collins (Deputy Lieutenant of Isle of Wight).
The Duke of Edinburgh, Royal Patron, The King’s Volunteer Reserve Medal Association, this evening attended a Reception at HM Tower of London, London EC3.
The Duchess of Edinburgh today arrived at Heathrow Airport, London, having completed four days of confidential engagements in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, accompanied by His Majesty’s Ambassador (Her Excellency Mrs Alyson King), during which Her Royal Highness called upon The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
