COURT CIRCULAR

Buckingham Palace

The King and Queen today attended a Service to commemorate the Eightieth Anniversary of Victory over Japan Day, at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire, and were received by the National President of the Royal British Legion (Vice Admiral Paul Bennett), the Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) and the Chief of the Defence Staff (Admiral Sir Antony Radakin).

His Majesty laid a Wreath at the Armed Forces Memorial and The Queen laid a posy.

At the conclusion of the Service, The King and Queen viewed a fly-past over the Armed Forces Memorial by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight of a Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire.

His Majesty subsequently proceeded to the Changi Lych Gate Memorial and, escorted by the Managing Director of the National Memorial Arboretum (Mrs Philippa Rawlinson), viewed the Burma Star Memorial and the Chindit Memorial and, at the Burma Railway Memorial, met members of Burma Star Memorial Fund, the Chindit Society, and Children and Families of Far East Prisoners of War.

The King and Queen afterwards attended a Reception with veterans.

The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess of Edinburgh, Patron, the Java Far East Prisoners of War Club 1942, this morning attended a Service marking the Eightieth Anniversary of Victory over Japan Day at the Scottish National War Memorial, Edinburgh Castle.

His Royal Highness, Commodore-in-Chief, Royal Fleet Auxiliary, and Her Royal Highness this evening attended a performance of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle.

Today is the Anniversary of the Birthday of The Princess Royal.

Kensington Palace

The Duke of Gloucester, Colonel-in-Chief, The Royal Anglian Regiment, and Royal Patron, the National Far East Prisoners of War Fellowship Welfare Remembrance Association, and The Duchess of Gloucester this morning attended a Service to commemorate the Eightieth Anniversary of Victory over Japan Day in Norwich Cathedral and were received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk (the Lady Dannatt).

His Royal Highness, Colonel-in-Chief, The Royal Anglian Regiment, and Royal Patron, the National Far East Prisoners of War Fellowship Welfare Remembrance Association, and Her Royal Highness this afternoon attended a Service to commemorate the Eightieth Anniversary of Victory over Japan Day at St Mary’s Church, Honey Hill, Bury St Edmunds, and were received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk (Clare, Countess of Euston).

The King this morning inspected the new Banner of the Clan Farquharson and was received at Victoria Hall, Station Square, Ballater, by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire (Mr Alexander Manson) and the Chieftain of the Clan Farquharson (Mr Philip Farquharson).

His Majesty met members of the Invercauld Highlanders and of the Pipes and Drums of the Scots College, Sydney, Australia.

The Duchess of Edinburgh, Patron, the Java Far East Prisoners of War Club 1942, this morning held a Meeting with Mr James Wren at Old Sarum Manor Care Home, Rhodes Moorhouse Way, Salisbury, and was received by Lieutenant General Sir Andrew Gregory (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire).

Balmoral Castle

Commander William Thornton RN was received by The King this morning upon relinquishing his appointment as Equerry to His Majesty when The King invested him with the Insignia of a Member of the Royal Victorian Order.

The King was represented by Field Marshal the Lord Richards of Herstmonceux (formerly Chief of the Defence Staff) at the Funeral of Major General Brian Pennicott (formerly Defence Services Secretary) which was held at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 19 Tilford Road, Farnham, Surrey, today.

Daily Record: August 6th, 2025

COURT CIRCULAR

Balmoral Castle

The King this morning officially opened Brora Heritage Centre, Coal Pit Road, Fascally, Brora, and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Sutherland (Major General Patrick Marriott) and the Chairman of Clyne Heritage Society (Dr Nicholas Lindsay).

His Majesty toured the building and met members of staff and volunteers.

The King today visited Royal Air Force Lossiemouth and was received at the Poseidon Line Squadron by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Moray (Air Commodore Alistair Monkman), the Station Commander (Group Captain Sarah Brewin) and Air Vice-Marshal Mark Jackson (Air Officer Commanding Number One Group).

His Majesty was received on Parade with a Royal Salute and inspected the Guard of Honour, before presenting No 42 (Torpedo Bomber) Squadron with a New Standard and witnessing a fly-past by a Poseidon and two Typhoon aircraft.

The King was graciously pleased to address the Parade and Wing Commander Colin Bostrom (Parade Commander and Officer Commanding No 42 (Torpedo Bomber) Squadron) replied.

The Parade subsequently marched past His Majesty.

The King afterwards met Royal Air Force Lossiemouth Service personnel, their families and members of the Royal Air Force Lossiemouth community, before viewing Typhoon and P-8 Poseidon aircraft.

The Princess Royal, having been received by His Majesty’s Ambassador to Ireland (His Excellency Mr Paul Johnston), this morning was received by The President of Ireland and Mrs Sabina Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin, Phoenix Park, Dublin.

Her Royal Highness this afternoon attended the Royal Dublin Society Horse Show, Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin, to mark its One Hundredth and Fiftieth Anniversary.
