COURT CIRCULAR

Clarence House

The King held His first Privy Council at 10.20am at St James’s Palace.

The Queen Consort and The Prince of Wales were present.

Previously the Lords Spiritual and Temporal of this Realm and Members of the House of Commons, together with other members of Her late Majesty’s Privy Council and Representatives of the Realms and Territories, Aldermen and Citizens of London and others who were also present, approved a Proclamation proclaiming His Majesty as King Charles the Third.

The Proclamation was signed by those who were present.

At the Council His Majesty made a Declaration, which was ordered to be published, and The King subsequently took and subscribed the Oath for the Security of the Church of Scotland.

Mr Richard Tilbrook (Clerk of the Council) and Mrs Ceri King (Deputy Clerk of the Council) were in attendance.

The Archbishop of Canterbury was received in audience by The King and The Queen Consort at Buckingham Palace this afternoon.

Afterwards His Majesty received the Rt Hon Elizabeth Truss MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) and the following members of the Cabinet: the Rt Hon Kwasi Kwarteng MP (Chancellor of the Exchequer), the Rt Hon James Cleverly MP (Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs), the Rt Hon Dr Thérèse Coffey MP (Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Health and Social Care), the Rt Hon Sue-Ellen Braverman MP (Secretary of State for the Home Department), the Rt Hon Ben Wallace MP (Secretary of State for Defence), the Rt Hon Brandon Lewis MP (Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice), the Rt Hon Nadhim Zahawi MP (Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster), the Rt Hon Penelope Mordaunt MP (Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons) and the Lord True (Lord Privy Seal and Leader of the House of Lords).

The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer MP (Leader of His Majesty’s Opposition), the Rt Hon Sir Edward Davey MP (Leader of the Liberal Democrats) and the Rt Hon Ian Blackford MP (Leader of the Scottish National Party) were received by The King.

The Dean of Westminster (the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle) was received by His Majesty.

The Duke of York, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, with their families, were present at a private Service for The late Queen at Crathie Parish Church today.

The Queen died peacefully this afternoon.

The Queen was represented by the Lady Elton (Lady in Waiting) at the Funeral of Lieutenant Colonel Sir Simon Bland (formerly Private Secretary to The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester) which was held at St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Church Street, Edenbridge, Kent, this afternoon.

St James’s Palace

The Countess of Wessex this morning visited Sunnydown School, 152 Whyteleafe Road, Caterham, and was received by Mr Martin Gerrard (Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey).

Her Royal Highness this afternoon visited the Woodhouse Centre, Hoskins Road, Oxted, and was received by Mr Peter Lee (Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey).

Kensington Palace

The Duke of Gloucester, also representing The Duchess of Gloucester, was present at the Funeral of Lieutenant Colonel Sir Simon Bland (formerly Private Secretary to Their Royal Highnesses) which was held at St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Church Street, Edenbridge, Kent, this afternoon.

The Duchess of Gloucester this morning attended an Open Day at the Royal College of Pathologists, 6 Alie Street, London E1, to mark the Sixtieth Anniversary, and was received by Mr Leslie Morgan (Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London).

The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay this morning visited New Lanark World Heritage Site, South Lanarkshire, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Lanarkshire (the Lady Haughey).

His Royal Highness afterwards visited New Lanark Auction Mart, Lanark Agricultural Centre, Muirglen, Hyndford Road, Lanark.

The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay this afternoon received the winners of ‘Who Cares Wins’, at Dumfries House, Cumnock, Ayrshire.

His Royal Highness later held a Natasha Allergy Research Foundation Meeting at Dumfries House.

The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay subsequently held a Rose Town Foundation Meeting at Dumfries House.

The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay and The Duchess of Rothesay this evening held a Dinner at Dumfries House.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex this morning visited Preston Market Hall, 28 Market Street, Preston, Lancashire.

Their Royal Highnesses this afternoon visited Avenham and Miller Parks, Preston.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex later visited Lancaster Castle and were received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire (the Lord Shuttleworth).

The Princess Royal this morning presented The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service to Broadford and Strath Community Company, Camping Skye, Broadford, Isle of Skye, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty (Mrs Joanie Whiteford).

Her Royal Highness later visited Raasay Primary School, School Park, Isle of Raasay, Kyle, and was received by Mr Andrew Townsend (Deputy Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty).

The Princess Royal this afternoon visited Isle of Raasay Distillery, Borodale House, Isle of Raasay.

The Rt Hon Boris Johnson MP had an audience of The Queen this morning and tendered his resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury which Her Majesty was graciously pleased to accept.

Mrs Johnson was also received by The Queen.

Her Majesty received in audience the Rt Hon Elizabeth Truss MP this afternoon and requested her to form a new Administration. The Rt Hon Elizabeth Truss MP accepted The Queen’s offer and kissed hands upon her appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.

Mr Hugh O’Leary was also received by Her Majesty.

Mr Donal McCabe was received by The Queen when Her Majesty invested him with the Insignia of a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order.

The Queen was represented by Mrs Jeanna Swan (Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Berwickshire) at the Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Major Andrew Trotter of Mortonhall (formerly Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Berwickshire) which was held in Duns Parish Church, Duns, today.

The Duchess of Cornwall, Patron, the Big Lunch, this afternoon met experts from the television programme “the Antiques Roadshow” at the Eden Project, Bodelva, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall (Colonel Edward Bolitho).

The Earl of Wessex, President, Sport and Recreation Alliance, this morning attended the Annual General Meeting at St James’s Palace.

His Royal Highness, Patron, the London Gardens Society, having been received by Colonel Simon Duckworth (Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London), this afternoon visited London’s Air Ambulance Helipad Garden, the Royal London Hospital, London E1, London Fire Brigade Mindfulness Garden, Dockhead Fire Station, London SE1, and London Bridge Hospital Garden, London SE1.

The Princess Royal later opened new facilities at Tarbert Harbour, Garval Road, Tarbert, and was received by Mr Kenneth McNab (Deputy Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute).

Her Royal Highness, Patron, the Pony Club, subsequently visited the Argyll South Branch, the Gather, Campbeltown Road, Tarbert.

The Duke of Gloucester this morning visited Detectortesters, Edison House, 163 Dixons Hill Road, Welham Green, Hatfield, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire (Mr Robert Voss).

His Royal Highness, Patron, de Havilland Aircraft Museum Trust, today presented The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service to de Havilland Aircraft Museum, Salisbury Hall, London Colney, Hertfordshire.

The Duke of Gloucester this afternoon visited Emmaus Hertfordshire, Hill End Lane, St Albans, Hertfordshire.
