COURT CIRCULAR

Palace of Holyroodhouse

The King this morning visited Campbeltown Farmers’ Market, Campbeltown Heritage Centre, Big Kiln Street, Campbeltown, and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute (Mrs Jane MacLeod) and the Provost of Argyll and Bute (Provost Douglas Philand).

His Majesty, escorted by Mr Andrew Gemmill (Organiser of Campbeltown Farmers’ Market), met stallholders before meeting representatives from the Young Farmers, the National Farmers Union Scotland, Trustees of the Centre and farmers supported by the Royal Countryside Fund.

The King afterwards attended a Community Reception at the Town Hall, 54 Main Street, Campbeltown, and was received by Mr James Martin (Deputy Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute).

His Majesty subsequently met members of the public in Main Street before visiting local shops.

The King this afternoon drove to Campbeltown Harbour New Quay and visited Kintyre Smokehouse before meeting representatives from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution Campbeltown, the Coastguard and Campbeltown Sailing Club, Campbeltown Sea Cadets, Campeltown Scouts and Girlguiding Kintyre.

By command of The King, Mr Alistair Harrison (Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps) called upon His Excellency Mr Jukka Siukosaari at 14 Kensington Palace Gardens, London W8, this morning in order to bid farewell to His Excellency upon relinquishing his appointment as Ambassador from the Republic of Finland to the Court of St James’s.

By command of His Majesty, the Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps afterwards called upon His Excellency Mr Viljar Lubi at 44 Queen’s Gate Terrace, London SW7, in order to bid farewell to His Excellency upon relinquishing his appointment as Ambassador from the Republic of Estonia to the Court of St James’s.

By command of The King, the Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps subsequently called upon His Excellency Mr Yassine El Oued at 29 Prince’s Gate, London SW7, in order to bid farewell to His Excellency upon relinquishing his appointment as Ambassador from the Tunisian Republic to the Court of St James’s.

Lady Elish Angiolini LT (Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland) was received by The King this morning and reported on the recent proceedings of the General Assembly.

Colonel Edwyn Launders was received by His Majesty upon his appointment as Comptroller, Lord Chamberlain’s Office.

The King and Queen later unveiled a Commemorative Cairn to mark the Centenary of Kirkcaldy War Memorial, War Memorial Gardens, Bennochy Road, Kirkcaldy, and were received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Fife (Mr Robert Balfour) and the Chairman of Kirkcaldy Royal British Legion (Mr William Mason).

Their Majesties attended a Rededication Service at the Memorial and The King laid a wreath.

His Majesty this afternoon visited Kirkaldy Galleries, War Memorial Gardens, to mark the Galleries’ Centenary, and was received by the Chief Executive of Fife Cultural Trust (Mrs Heather Stuart).

The King, escorted by the Galleries’ Manager (Mrs Helen Stevenson), viewed local artworks as part of the Centenary Exhibition and attended a Reception with community groups.

Later, the Rt Hon John Swinney MSP (First Minister of the Scottish Government) was received in audience by His Majesty.

The King and Queen afterwards attended the Dedication of the Memorial Stone to The late Queen in St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh, and were received at the West Door by the Dean of the Chapel Royal in Scotland (the Very Reverend Professor David Fergusson) and the Minister of St Giles’ (the Reverend Dr Scott Rennie).

The Queen, President, Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, this afternoon visited Maggie’s Fife, Victoria Hospital, Hayfield Road, Kirkcaldy, and was received by Colonel James Kinloch (Deputy Lieutenant of Fife).

Her Majesty, Patron, later held a Reception for The Queen’s Nursing Institute of Scotland at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

COURT CIRCULAR

Palace of Holyroodhouse

The King this morning was received in the garden of the Palace of Holyroodhouse by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh (Councillor Robert Aldridge, the Rt Hon the Lord Provost) and members of the City of Edinburgh Council, when the Rt Hon the Lord Provost surrendered to The King the Keys of the City, which His Majesty returned to him.

A Guard of Honour found by The King’s Bodyguard for Scotland, Royal Company of Archers, under the command of Captain, Lieutenant General Sir Andrew Graham, was mounted in the garden. Balaklava Company, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland and the High Constables of the Palace of Holyroodhouse were on duty.

Afterwards The King was received inside the Palace by the Hereditary Keeper (the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon).

His Majesty later held an Investiture at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Major General Matthew Sykes was received by The King this afternoon upon relinquishing his appointment as a Gentleman Usher to His Majesty.

Lieutenant Colonel Michael Vernon was received by The King upon relinquishing his appointment as Comptroller, Lord Chamberlain’s Office, when His Majesty conferred upon him the honour of Knighthood and invested him with the Insignia of a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.

Mrs Alison Johnstone MSP (Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament) was received by The King.

Afterwards The King and Queen unveiled a painting depicting the Honours of Scotland.

Mr James Bewsher, winner of the annual shooting event of The King’s Body Guard for Scotland, Royal Company of Archers, was presented to His Majesty and received The King’s Prize.

The Queen was present.

The King and Queen gave an Afternoon Party in the garden of the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The Princess Royal was present.

The King’s Body Guard for Scotland, Royal Company of Archers and the High Constables of the Palace of Holyroodhouse were on duty.

The Band of The Royal Marines Scotland, the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and the Royal Scottish Pipers’ Society played selections of music during the afternoon.

The Queen this morning visited Ratho Library, Wynd Road, Ratho, in advance of Edinburgh International Book Festival and, having been received by Sir Ian Rankin (Deputy Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh), viewed the Mobile Library bus and officially re-opened the Library.

The King was represented by the Baroness Scotland of Asthal (former Commonwealth Secretary-General) at the Memorial Service for Sir Shridath Ramphal (former Commonwealth Secretary-General) which was held at The Queen’s Chapel, Marlborough Road, London SW1, this morning.

The Duke of Kent was represented by Mr Nicolas Adamson.

The Prince of Wales, Joint Patron, the Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, today undertook the following engagements related to the “Homewards” programme.
