The Rt Hon David Lidington MP had an audience of The Queen this morning and delivered up the Great Seal and took leave upon relinquishing his appointment as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.

Her Majesty held a Council at 12 noon.

There were present: the Rt Hon Andrea Leadsom MP (Lord President), the Rt Hon David Gauke MP, the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, the Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP, the Rt Hon Esther McVey MP, the Rt Hon Karen Bradley MP, the Rt Hon Matthew Hancock MP and the Rt Hon David Lidington MP.

Mr Damian Hinds MP was sworn in as a member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council.

The following took the Oath of Office, kissed hands upon appointment and received the Seals of Office: the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP (as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care), the Rt Hon Damian Hinds MP (as Secretary of State for Education), the Rt Hon Esther McVey MP (as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions), the Rt Hon Karen Bradley MP (as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland) and the Rt Hon Matthew Hancock MP (as Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport).

The following made affirmation, kissed hands upon appointment and received the Seals of Office: the Rt Hon David Gauke MP (as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice) and the Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP (as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government).

Mr Richard Tilbrook was in attendance as Clerk of the Council.

The Rt Hon Andrea Leadsom MP had an audience of The Queen before the Council.

After the Council the Rt Hon David Lidington MP had an audience of Her Majesty and took the Oath of Office, kissed hands on appointment and received the Seals of Office as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Today being the Feast of the Epiphany, a Sung Eucharist was held in the Chapel Royal, St. James’s Palace, when the customary offerings of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh were made on behalf of The Queen by Air Vice-Marshal David Hobart and Brigadier Jonathan Bourne-May (Gentlemen Ushers to Her Majesty).

The Right Reverend and Rt. Hon. the Lord Chartres (Dean of Her Majesty’s Chapels Royal) was the Celebrant and presented the Offerings, assisted by the Reverend Canon Paul Wright (Sub-Dean of Her Majesty’s Chapels Royal) and the Reverend Richard Bolton and the Reverend William Whitcombe (Priests in Ordinary).

The Queen’s Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard was on duty in the Chapel.

INFORMAL APPEARANCES

Mr. and Mrs. Mike Tindall and their daughter Mia arrived at Australia’s Gold Coast Airport in advance of the Magic Millions event, of which Zara is an Ambassador. The Tindall family had spent the holiday season in Sydney. (The Sun)
