The Duke of Kent afterwards met local producers and pioneering companies at Next End Farm, Lyonshall, Herefordshire.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh this morning arrived at Leicester Railway Station and were received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire (Jennifer, Lady Gretton).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness drove to Leicester Cathedral and were received at the South Door by the Bishop of Leicester (the Right Reverend Martyn Snow), the Dean (the Very Reverend David Monteith) and the Residentiary Canons.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended the Maundy Service at which Her Majesty distributed the Royal Maundy.

The Right Reverend Dr John Inge (Lord High Almoner) and the Reverend Canon Paul Wright (Sub-Almoner) were present.

The Queen’s Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard were on duty.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness afterwards joined representatives of the Chapter, the Diocese and the Royal Almonry at St Martin’s House and were received by the Lord Mayor of Leicester (Councillor Stephen Corrall).

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were subsequently entertained to Luncheon in the Grand Hall of St Martin’s House by the Bishop of Leicester.

The Duke of York today received students and staff from Prince Andrew High School, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The Duke of Gloucester, President, the Britain-Nepal Society, was represented by Mr Roger Potter (Chairman) at the Funeral of Colonel James Evans (former Vice-President) which was held at St Mary’s Church, Froyle, Hampshire, this afternoon.

The Duke of Kent, President, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, this morning officially opened Scarborough Lifeboat Station at Foreshore Road, Scarborough, and named the new Shannon Lifeboat Frederick William Plaxton and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire (Mr Barry Dodd).

His Royal Highness this afternoon visited Lovat Mill, Hawick, Roxburghshire, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale (the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry).

The Duke of Kent, Deputy Colonel-in-Chief, The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys), this evening attended a Regimental Dinner at Edinburgh Castle.

The Queen, Patron, the Zoological Society of London, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, Honorary Fellow, this morning opened the Centre for Elephant Care at Whipsnade Zoo, Dunstable, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire (Mrs Helen Nellis), the President of the Zoological Society of London (Sir John Beddington) and Mr Ralph Armond (Director General).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness, escorted respectively by Professor David Field (Zoological Director) and Mr Lee Sambrook (Head Elephant Keeper), viewed the Elephant Enclosure and the elephant team carrying out nail filing, footcare and dental checks.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh viewed the feeding of an elephant and Her Majesty fed an elephant.

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, this afternoon opened Priory View, Church Street, Dunstable, and was received by Central Bedfordshire Council (Councillor David Bowater) and the Mayor of Dunstable (Councillor Peter Hollick).

Her Majesty, escorted by Ms Julie Ogley (Director of Social Care and Housing), and His Royal Highness, escorted by Councillor Carole Hegley (Executive Member for Social Care and Housing), viewed the hair salon, activities room, spa and accommodation and met residents
and carers.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were entertained to Luncheon by the Chairman of Central Bedfordshire Council.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Patron, Prince Philip Trust Fund for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, this evening attended a Dinner to mark the Fortieth Anniversary of the Fund, Windsor Guildhall, High Street, Windsor, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire (Mr James Puxley).
