The Queen, Colonel-in-Chief, Corps of Royal Engineers, today visited the Corps at Brompton Barracks, Chatham, to mark its Tercentenary and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Kent (the Viscount De L’Isle) and the Chief Royal Engineer (Lieutenant General Sir Mark Mans).

Her Majesty was received with a Royal Salute before inspecting the Parade from the State Review Range Rover and viewing a display showing the capabilities of the Royal Engineers.

The Chief Royal Engineer addressed the Parade and The Queen was graciously pleased to reply.

Afterwards Her Majesty viewed stands in the Auditorium linking the history of the Royal Engineers and the Corps’ current role before walking to the Officers’ Mess.

The Queen was received at the Officers’ Mess by the Mayor of Medway (Councillor Stuart Tranter) and was entertained to Luncheon by the Chief Royal Engineer.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Patron, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, today attended Receptions at St James’s Palace for young people who have achieved the Gold Standard in the Award.
