Balmoral Castle

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, accompanied by The Earl and Countess of Wessex and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, this morning attended a Service to commemorate the Seventieth Anniversary of Victory over Japan Day.

The service was held at St Martin-in-the-Fields, in Trafalgar Square, London WC2.

They were received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (Mr Kenneth Olisa), the Reverend Dr Samuel Wells (Vicar) and Mrs Pauline Simpson (Chaplain, Far East Prisoners of War).

After the Service, Her Majesty and Their Royal Highnesses met groups of veterans.

Clarence House

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall this afternoon witnessed a fly-past by aircraft of the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force Historic Flights marking the Seventieth Anniversary of Victory over Japan Day.

After watching the fly-past, their Royal Highnesses attended a Drumhead Service on Horse Guards Parade, London SW1. The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall subsequently attended a Reception at College Gardens, Westminster Abbey, London SW1.

At the reception they met veterans who had served the Crown in the Far East in the Second World War and who were accompanied to the event by their families.

Today is the Anniversary of the Birthday of The Princess Royal.

By command of The Queen, Ms Catherine Nettleton (Vice Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps) called upon His Excellency Mr Carlos dos Santos at 21 Fitzroy Square, London W1, this morning in order to bid farewell to His Excellency upon relinquishing his appointment as High Commissioner for the Republic of Mozambique in London.

By command of The Queen, Ms. Catherine Nettleton (Vice-Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps) called upon His Excellency Dr. Dalhatu Tafida at Nigeria House, 9 Northumberland Avenue, London WC2, today in order to bid farewell to His Excellency upon relinquishing his appointment as High Commissioner for the Federal Republic of Nigeria in London.

The Duke of York this afternoon arrived at Heathrow Airport, London, from Singapore.

Mrs. Amanda Thirsk, Mr. David Pogson and Lieutenant Jack Cooper RN were in attendance.

The Queen arrived at Balmoral Castle today.

She was received by Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire, Mr James Ingleby.

Her Majesty then inspected the Royal Guard found by The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
