Palace of Holyroodhouse

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh arrived at Edinburgh Airport this afternoon.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness drove to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and were received in the Forecourt by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh (Councillor Donald Wilson, the Rt. Hon. the Lord Provost) and members of the City of Edinburgh Council, when the Rt. Hon. the Lord Provost surrendered to The Queen the Keys of the City, which Her Majesty returned to him.

A Guard of Honour found by The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, under the command of Major Alastair Colville, was mounted in the Forecourt.

Afterwards Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were received inside the Palace by the Hereditary Keeper (the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon).

The Queen was represented by General Sir Kevin O’Donoghue (Gentleman Usher to the Sword of State) at the Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of General Sir Edward Burgess (formerly Gentleman Usher to the Sword of State and Aide-de-Camp General) which was held in Guildford Cathedral this afternoon.

The Duke of Edinburgh was represented by General Sir Samuel Cowan.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were represented by Mr Michael Sefi (Keeper of the Royal Philatelic Collection) at the Service of Thanksgiving for Mr. Charles Goodwyn (formerly Keeper of the Royal Philatelic Collection) which was held at St. Mary’s Parish Church, Old Amersham, Buckinghamshire, this afternoon.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were received this morning by the Mayor of Berlin (Mr Michael Müler) before walking through Pariser Platz, Berlin, Germany.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were received later at Celle Air Base by Mr Stephen Weil (Minister-President of the State of Lower Saxony), Mr Bernd Busemann (President of the Lower Saxony Parliament), the Mayor of Celle (Mr Dirk-Ulrich Mende) and Dr Gunter Dunkel (Honorary Consul).

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh this afternoon visited Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, Anne-Frank-Platz, Lohheide, and were received by the Director (Dr Jens-Christian Wagner).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness viewed the Jewish Memorial and Anne Frank’s Memorial before visiting the House of Silence.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh then viewed the Polish Cross and afterwards Her Majesty and His Royal Highness laid a wreath against the Inscription Wall.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh subsequently met the Chief Rabbi (Mr Ephraim Mirvis), members of the German Jewish community, survivors and liberators, and schoolchildren.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness, attended by the Hon Dame Annabel Whitehead, the Rt Hon Sir Christopher Geidt, Mr Edward Young, Mr James Roscoe, Surgeon Captain David Hett RN, Commander Patrick Lacey RN, Commander Andrew Canale RN and Brigadier Archie Miller-Bakewell, later departed Germany for Royal Air Force Northolt where the aircraft was received upon arrival by the Earl Peel (Lord Chamberlain).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness, with The President and Ms Schadt, drove to Paulskirche, Paulsplatz, were received by the Mayor of Frankfurt (Mayor Peter Feldmann) and met community representatives.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, with The President of the Federal Republic of Germany and Ms Daniela Schadt, this afternoon walked to the Römer and were entertained to Luncheon in the Imperial Hall by the Minister-President of the State of Hesse and the Mayor of Frankfurt.

Afterwards Her Majesty and His Royal Highness walked through the Römerberg.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, with The President of the Federal Republic of Germany and Ms. Daniela Schadt, this evening attended a Garden Party given by Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and Lady McDonald at the Residence in Berlin.

Afterwards The President and Ms Schadt bade farewell to Her Majesty and His Royal Highness.

The Princess Royal, on behalf of The Queen, held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace this morning.

The Queen this afternoon called upon Dr Angela Merkel (Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany) and The Duke of Edinburgh called upon Minister Peter Altmaier (Head of the Federal Chancellery and Federal Minister for Special Tasks) at the Chancellery, Willy-Brandt-Strasse, Berlin.

Her Majesty, accompanied by His Royal Highness, afterwards laid a wreath at the Neue Wache Memorial, Unter den Linden, Berlin, and was received by Vice Admiral Joachim Rühle (the Chief of the Defence Staff’s representative).

The President of the Slovak Republic visited The Prince of Wales this afternoon at Windsor Castle.

His Royal Highness this evening gave a Dinner at Windsor Castle for The Prince of Wales Foundation (United States of America).

The Duke of York this morning visited the Constructionarium at the National Construction College, Bircham Newton, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk (Mr Richard Jewson).

His Royal Highness this afternoon gave a Luncheon for Mr. Guo Jinlong (Communist Party Secretary of Beijing) at the Royal Thames Yacht Club, 60 Knightsbridge, London SW1.

The Duke of York, Patron, TeenTech, later attended the National Final at the Royal Society, 6-9 Carlton Gardens, London SW1.

His Royal Highness, Patron, the Peter Jones Foundation, afterwards held a Trustees’ Meeting at Buckingham Palace.
