The King and Queen this morning drove to the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh, to mark the Parliament’s Twenty Fifth Anniversary and were received at Queensberry House by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh (Councillor Robert Aldridge, the Rt Hon the Lord Provost), the Rt Hon Alison Johnstone MSP (Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament) and the Rt Hon John Swinney MSP (First Minister of the Scottish Government).
The Presiding Officer welcomed Their Majesties and The King was graciously pleased to address the Scottish Parliament.
Members of the Scottish Parliament subsequently addressed the Parliament and the Presiding Officer closed the Session of Parliament.
Guards of Honour were found by The King’s Body Guard for Scotland, Royal Company of Archers at Queensberry House and by The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and the High Constables of the Palace of Holyroodhouse were on duty.
