Palace of Holyroodhouse

The King and Queen left the Palace of Holyroodhouse this morning.

Their Majesties later visited the Great Tapestry of Scotland visitor centre, 14-20 High Street, Galashiels, to mark Ten Years since the Tapestry was completed and went on public display, and were received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale (the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry KT), Mr Michael Grey (Chairman, the Great Tapestry of Scotland Advisory Board) and Mrs Alexandra Maxwell-Forbes (Director of the Visitor Centre).

The King and Queen viewed the Tapestry panels, including a new panel which has been designed to commemorate Their Majesties’ Coronation, and met stitchers from across Scotland.

The King and Queen this afternoon visited Lochcarron of Scotland, Waverley Mill, Rogers Road, Selkirk, and were received by Mrs Philippa Lee (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale), Ms Dawn Robson-Bell (Managing Director) and Mrs Leah Robertson (Marketing and E-Commerce Manager).

Their Majesties proceeded to the Dye House, viewing the Holt winding machine, visiting the Warping and Weaving sections and meeting members of staff.

The King and Queen then toured the warehouse, viewing heritage banners, the Tartan Wall and weavers’ flags.

Their Majesties afterwards visited Selkirk and were received by the Chairman of the Royal Burgh of Selkirk and District Community Council (Mr Andrew Murray).

The King and Queen toured the marketplace, viewing local produce on display, and meeting stallholders and members of the public.

Their Majesties were received subsequently at the top of the square by the Chairman of the Common Riding Trust and Hon Provost (Mr Keith Miller) and viewed a performance of “Casting of the Colours”.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Patron, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, this morning received young people who have achieved the Gold Standard in the Award at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

His Royal Highness this afternoon visited the Royal Lyceum Theatre, 30b Grindlay Street, Edinburgh, and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh (Councillor Robert Aldridge, the Rt Hon the Lord Provost).

Her Royal Highness this afternoon opened Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Maternity Theatre at Bradford Royal Infirmary, Duckworth Lane, Bradford, and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire (Mr Edmund Anderson).

The Princess Royal, Honorary Air Commodore, Royal Air Force Brize Norton, later received Air Commodore Emily Flynn at St James’s Palace upon relinquishing her appointment as Station Commander and Group Captain Claire O’Grady upon assuming the appointment.

Her Royal Highness, Colonel, The Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons), accompanied by Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, this evening took the salute at the Household Division Beating Retreat on Horse Guards Parade, London SW1.

The Duke of Gloucester this afternoon visited Ryhall Village, near Stamford, and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland (Dr Sarah Furness).

His Royal Highness afterwards visited CS Ellis Logistics, Wireless Hill, South Luffenham, Rutland.

The Duke of Gloucester later visited Hanson Cement, Ketton Cement Works, Ketco Avenue, Ketton, Rutland.

The King held an Investiture at the Palace of Holyroodhouse this morning.

His Majesty afterwards presented Honours at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to members of the Army who were involved in the Lying at Rest of The late Queen Elizabeth II in St Giles’ Cathedral.

The King and Queen this afternoon attended a Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication in St Giles’ Cathedral to celebrate Their Majesties’ Coronation and were received by the Lord Lyon King of Arms (Dr Joseph Morrow), the Minister of St Giles’ (the Reverend Calum MacLeod), the Dean of His Majesty’s Chapel Royal in Scotland (the Right Reverend Professor David Fergusson) and the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland (the Right Reverend Sally Foster-Fulton).

During the Service the Honours of Scotland were presented to The King.

The Prince William, Duke of Rothesay and The Duchess of Rothesay were present.

The King and Queen, from the Palace of Holyroodhouse, witnessed a fly-past to mark Their Majesties’ Coronation.

Later, the Hon Hamish Macfarlane was received by His Majesty and delivered up the Badge and Star of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle worn by his father, the late Lord Macfarlane of Bearsden.

The Earl of Home was received by The King and delivered up the Badge and Star of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle worn by his father, the late Earl of Home.

The King and Queen this evening attended a Reception for The King’s Body Guard for Scotland, Royal Company of Archers at Archers’ Hall, 66 Buccleuch Street, Edinburgh.

The Queen this morning visited the Regenerative Textiles Exhibition at Dovecot Studios, 10 Infirmary Street, Edinburgh, and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh (Councillor Robert Aldridge, the Rt Hon the Lord Provost).

The King and Queen this morning viewed the Jubilee Gates at the entrance to Abbey Yard, Palace of Holyroodhouse, commissioned by the High Constables of the Palace of Holyroodhouse to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

The King and Queen afterwards visited the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, 51 Little France Crescent, Old Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh, to mark the Seventy Fifth Anniversary of the National Health Service, and were received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh (Councillor Robert Aldridge, the Rt Hon the Lord Provost) and the Chairman of National Health Service Lothian (Professor John Connaghan).

Their Majesties, escorted by Mr Calum Campbell (Chief Executive, National Health Service Lothian) and Ms Michelle Carr (Chief Officer, Acute Services), met members of staff from the Maternity Services team and subsequently, escorted respectively by the Chairman and Mr Aris Tyrothoulakis (Site Director, the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh), visited the Medicine of the Elderly and Meaningful Activity Centre and met patients, members of nursing staff and volunteers, before meeting further patients, staff and volunteers in the Hospital’s main internal concourse.

Later, Mrs Alison Johnstone MSP (Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament) was received by The King.

The Rt Hon Humza Yousaf MSP (First Minister of the Scottish Government) was received by His Majesty.

Lieutenant Colonel Alastair Colville, winner of the annual shooting event of The King’s Body Guard for Scotland, Royal Company of Archers, was presented to The King and received The King’s Prize.

Mr Edward Russell, winner of the 2022 annual shooting event of The Queen’s Body Guard for Scotland, Royal Company of Archers, was presented to The Queen this afternoon and received The late Queen’s Prize.

The King and Queen gave an Afternoon Party in the garden of the Palace of Holyroodhouse to celebrate Their Majesties’ Coronation.

The Princess Royal was present.

The King’s Body Guard for Scotland, Royal Company of Archers and the High Constables of the Palace of Holyroodhouse were on duty.

The Royal Marine Band Scotland, the Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland and the Royal Scottish Pipers’ Society played selections of music during the afternoon.

Members of the Worshipful Company of Gardeners were received by The Queen this afternoon when they presented a Bouquet to mark Her Majesty’s Coronation.

The Prince of Wales this morning received The Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Bahrain at Windsor Castle.

The King this afternoon visited Kinneil House, off Provost Road, Bo’ness, to mark the Centenary of Kinneil Estate becoming a public park, and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Falkirk and Stirling (Mr Alan Simpson), the Chairman of Friends of Kinneil (Mr Ian Shearer) and the District Visitor and Community Manager of Historic Environment Scotland (Ms Rachel Sydesserff).

His Majesty toured the House and gardens, meeting members of staff and representatives from The Prince’s Trust and local charities and organisations.

The King this afternoon was received in the Forecourt of the Palace of Holyroodhouse by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh (Councillor Robert Aldridge, the Rt Hon the Lord Provost) and members of the City of Edinburgh Council, when the Rt Hon the Lord Provost surrendered to The King the Keys of the City, which His Majesty returned to him.

A Guard of Honour, found by the King’s Bodyguard for Scotland (the Royal Company of Archers), under the command of Lieutenant General Sir Alistair Irwin, was mounted in the Forecourt.

Afterwards The King was received inside the Palace by the Hereditary Keeper (the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon).

The Lord Lyon King of Arms (Dr Joseph Morrow) subsequently presented the new Elizabeth Sword (part of the Honours of Scotland) to The King, which His Majesty returned to him.

The King this evening attended a Reception on board the Royal Yacht Britannia, Ocean Drive, Leith, Edinburgh, to mark the Twenty Fifth Anniversary of the Yacht’s arrival in Edinburgh, and was received by the Chairman of the Royal Yacht Britannia Trust (Rear Admiral Neil Rankin) and the Chairman of the Association of Royal Yachtsmen (Commodore Anthony Morrow).
