The Queen, accompanied by The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge, The Duke of York, The Earl of Wessex, The Princess Royal, The Duke of Gloucester and The Duke of Kent, today held a Chapter of the Most Noble Order of the Garter in the Throne Room, Windsor Castle.
Air Chief Marshal the Lord Stirrup was present.
The following Knights Companion were also present: the Lord Carrington, the Duke of Wellington, Field Marshal the Lord Bramall, the Lord Sainsbury of Preston Candover, the Lord Ashburton, the Lord Kingsdown, Sir Timothy Colman, the Duke of Abercorn (Chancellor), Sir William Gladstone, Bt, Field Marshal the Lord Inge, Sir Antony Acland, the Duke of Westminster, the Lord Butler of Brockwell, the Lord Morris of Aberavon, the Baroness Soames, the Rt Hon Sir John Major, the Lord Luce, Sir Thomas Dunne, the Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers and Admiral the Lord Boyce.
The Officers of the Order were: the Bishop of Winchester (Prelate), the Dean of Windsor (Register), Mr Thomas Woodcock (Garter), Lieutenant General David Leakey (Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod) and Mr Patric Dickinson (Secretary).
Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Matheson of Matheson, younger (Secretary, Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood), Mr Arthur Chatto (Page of Honour) and the Hon Charles Armstrong-Jones (Page of Honour) were in attendance.
Her Majesty invested Air Chief Marshal the Lord Stirrup with the Insignia of a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.
The Queen later gave a Luncheon Party.
The Installation Service was held in St George’s Chapel this afternoon.
Detachments of Her Majesty’s Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, The Queen’s Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard and the Military Knights of Windsor were on duty in the Chapel.
Mrs Joan Christie (Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of County Antrim) was present at Belfast International Airport this morning upon the Arrival of The President of the United States of America and welcomed His Excellency on behalf of The Queen.
Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of County Antrim was present at Belfast International Airport later upon the Arrival of The President of the French Republic and welcomed His Excellency on behalf of Her Majesty.
Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of County Antrim was present this afternoon at Belfast International Airport this afternoon upon the Arrival of The President of the Russian Federation and welcomed His Excellency on behalf of The Queen.
