COURT CIRCULAR

Buckingham Palace

The Queen today visited Kingston upon Hull to mark the commencement of its tenure as United Kingdom City of Culture.

Her Majesty arrived at Hull Railway Station this morning and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire (the Hon Mrs Susan Cunliffe-Lister) and the Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber (Councillor John Hewitt), who surrendered to The Queen the Sword of the City, which Her Majesty returned to him.

The Queen met Lord-Lieutenant’s cadets and City of Culture volunteers and walked through the covered station area.

Her Majesty afterwards drove to the Wind Turbine Blade manufacturing plant of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy Limited, Alexandra Dock, Kingston upon Hull, and was received by the Chief Executive Officer (Mr Markus Tacke).

The Queen toured the plant, escorted by Mr Clark MacFarlane (Managing Director, Siemens Wind Power), meeting production teams and school students and viewing a Greenpower car demonstration.

Her Majesty later opened the Allam Medical Building at the University of Hull and was received by the Chancellor (Baroness Bottomley of Nettlestone) and Professor Susan Lea (Vice-Chancellor).

The Queen toured the building, visiting a ward and operating theatre and viewing nursing, medical and anaesthetic students, with their tutors, training on medical mannequins.

Subsequently Her Majesty was entertained to Luncheon in the Canham Turner Building by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hull.

The Prince of Wales, on behalf of The Queen, held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace this morning.

The Prince of Wales this afternoon attended an Accounting for Sustainability Forum at St James’s Palace.

His Royal Highness this evening attended a performance by the Australian Chamber Orchestra and afterwards held a Dinner at Buckingham Palace.

The Duke of Cambridge this morning attended a Meeting of the Royal Foundation Taskforce on the Prevention of Cyberbullying, at Google, 7 Pancras Square, 7 King’s Boulevard, Kings Cross, London N1.

The Queen this afternoon visited the British Museum, Great Russell Street, London WC1, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (Mr Kenneth Olisa), the Chairman of the British Museum (Sir Richard Lambert) and Mr Hartwig Fischer (Director).

Her Majesty toured the Sir Joseph Hotung Gallery of China and South Asia, escorted by Sir Joseph Hotung (Trustee Emeritus), before re-opening the Gallery.

The Rt Hon Theresa May MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) had an audience of The Queen later this afternoon.

Her Majesty was represented by The Duke of Kent at the Memorial Commemoration for Sir Ewen Fergusson (formerly Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the French Republic) which was held at the National Gallery, London WC2, this evening.

The Prince of Wales was represented by Sir Peter Westmacott.
