Buckingham Palace

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh this morning visited Canada House, Trafalgar Square, London SW1, to celebrate the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of Canadian Confederation and were received by the Governor General of Canada (His Excellency Mr David Johnston) and the High Commissioner for Canada in London (Her Excellency Mrs Janice Charette).

Her Majesty, escorted by the High Commissioner, and His Royal Highness, escorted by the Governor General, viewed artefacts and displays celebrating “Canada 150”, listened to a musical performance and met guests including young people, business leaders, entrepreneurs, artists and members of First Nation communities.

The Queen subsequently unveiled a Jubilee Walkway Panel outside Canada House.

The Rt Hon Anne Milton MP was received by The Queen this afternoon when she delivered up her Wand of Office upon relinquishing her appointment as Treasurer of the Household.

Mr Julian Smith MP was received by The Queen and delivered up his Wand of Office upon relinquishing his appointment as Vice-Chamberlain of the Household when Her Majesty handed to him his Wand of Office as Treasurer of the Household.

Mr Christopher Heaton-Harris MP was received by The Queen upon his appointment as Vice-Chamberlain of the Household when Her Majesty handed to him his Wand of Office.

The Rt Hon Melvyn Stride MP was received by The Queen when he delivered up his Wand of Office upon relinquishing his appointment as Comptroller of the Household.

Mr Christopher Pincher MP was received by The Queen upon his appointment as Comptroller of the Household when Her Majesty handed to him his Wand of Office.

The Vice-Chamberlain of the Household was received in audience by The Queen and presented an Address from the House of Commons to which Her Majesty was graciously pleased to make reply.

The Queen held a Council at 5.30pm.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this evening attended a Garden Party given by Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and Lady Wood at the Residence.

The King and Queen of Spain this evening received an Address of Welcome and were entertained at a Banquet by the Rt Hon the Lord Mayor and the City of London Corporation at Guildhall.

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, this morning opened New Scotland Yard, the new Headquarters of the Metropolitan Police on Victoria Embankment, London SW1, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (Mr Kenneth Olisa) and the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis (Miss Cressida Dick).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness, escorted respectively by the Commissioner and Mr Craig Mackey (Deputy Commissioner), passed vintage police vehicles and two police horses before viewing historical items, including a Second World War uniform of a Woman Police Constable and the operational order for the Coronation, and viewing plans of the new building and a bomb disposal demonstration by a robot.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh subsequently viewed officers demonstrating “A day in the life of the Met” and met uniformed members of staff.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness afterwards witnessed a salute performed by a Marine Policing Unit river boat and met “first responders” to the recent terrorist attacks in London, management board members, officers, cadets and members of staff.

The King and Queen of Spain today commenced a State Visit in London to The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall welcomed Their Majesties on behalf of The Queen at ME London Hotel, 336-337, Strand, London WC2.

The King and Queen of Spain, accompanied by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, drove to Horse Guards and were met by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.

The King and Queen of Spain, accompanied by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, with The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, drove in a Carriage Procession to Buckingham Palace with a Sovereign’s Escort of the Household Cavalry.

Gun Salutes were fired in Green Park by The King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, and at the Tower of London by the Honourable Artillery Company.

Guards of Honour were provided at Horse Guards and at Buckingham Palace by 1st Battalion Irish Guards.

Her Majesty’s Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, The Queen’s Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard and a Detachment of Household Cavalry were on duty.

The King and Queen of Spain this afternoon visited The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall at Clarence House.
