The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh arrived at Folkestone Central Railway Station this morning and were received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Kent (the Viscount De L’Isle).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness drove to the National Memorial to the Few, New Dover Road, Capel-le-Ferne, and were received at the Battle of Britain Memorial entrance by Prince Michael of Kent, Patron of the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust, the President of the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust (Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Graydon) and Mr Richard Hunting (Chairman).

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, escorted by Group Captain Patrick Tootal (Honorary Secretary of the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust), entered the Scramble Experience and watched a short film on the Battle of Britain and the life of “the Few”.

Afterwards Her Majesty and His Royal Highness, escorted respectively by the Honorary Secretary and the Chairman, met Trustees, donors and volunteers before meeting Mr David Metcalf (Headteacher of Capel-le-Ferne Primary School) and viewing schoolchildren completing museum worksheets.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh subsequently witnessed a flypast of Hurricane, Spitfire and Typhoon aircraft before Her Majesty opened the Wing, the Memorial Trust’s new visitor and education centre.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness this afternoon attended a Service in Canterbury Cathedral and were received by Mr Richard Oldfield (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Kent) and the Dean (the Very Reverend Dr Robert Willis).

After the Service, The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, unveiled statues of Her Majesty and His Royal Highness next to the Great West Door of the Cathedral to mark The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Colonel-in-Chief, Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, this evening attended the Young Officers Annual Dinner at West Court Officers Mess, Finchampstead, Berkshire.

The Prince of Wales, on behalf of The Queen, held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace this morning.

The Queen was represented by The Countess of Wessex at the Service of Reinterment of the Remains of King Richard III which was held in Leicester Cathedral this morning.
