Her Majesty and His Royal Highness drove to the Co-operative Group Limited at 1 Angel Square, Manchester, and were received by the Chairman (Mr Leonard Wardle), Mr. Euan Sutherland (Chief Executive) and the Lord Mayor of Manchester (Councillor Naeem ul Hassan).

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, escorted respectively by the Chief Executive and the Chairman, toured the building, meeting staff and viewing displays of the Company’s diverse activities, before Her Majesty opened the new Headquarters.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh afterwards visited the Factory Youth Zone, 931 Rochdale Road, Harpurhey, Manchester, and were received by the Chairman (Mrs Katharine Vokes and Mr Paul Bird (Chief Executive Officer).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness, escorted respectively by the Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer, visited the sports hall, kitchens and gymnasium, viewing activities taking place and meeting young people.
