The Queen this morning opened the new British Broadcasting Corporation Broadcasting House, Portland Place, London W1, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (Sir David Brewer), the Chairman of British Broadcasting Corporation Trust (the Lord Patten of Barnes) and the Lord Hall of Birkenhead (Director-General).

The Queen, escorted by the Chairman and the Director-General, toured Studios and met members of staff.

Her Majesty delivered a live message to mark the opening of the new Broadcasting House.

The Queen subsequently met former members of staff involved in the coverage of Her Majesty’s Coronation, before attending a Reception for Trustees, staff and cast members.

The Prince of Wales, on behalf of The Queen, held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace this morning.

The President of Columbia called upon The Prince of Wales at Clarence House this afternoon.

His Royal Highness this evening gave a Reception for the Geneva Association at Clarence House.

Buckingham Palace 

The Earl of Wessex this morning opened The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre at De Montfort University, Leicester, and was received by Her Majesty’s LordLieutenant of Leicestershire (Jennifer, Lady Gretton).

His Royal Highness this afternoon opened the Square Mile Project Office, Chantry Building, De Montfort University.

The Earl of Wessex subsequently visited the Square Mile Project for De Montfort University at Fosse Neighbourhood Centre, Mantle Road, Leicester.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton was received by The Queen today upon relinquishing his appointment as Chief of the Air Staff.

Air Chief Marshal the Lord Stirrup was received by The Queen when Her Majesty invested him with the Insignia of a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.

The Queen was graciously pleased to invest The Duke of Edinburgh with the Insignia of a Member of the Order of New Zealand.

The New Zealand High Commissioner (Dr the Rt Hon Sir Lockwood Smith) was present.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh gave an Afternoon Party in the garden of Buckingham Palace.
