By command of The Queen, Mr Charles Gray (Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps) called upon Her Excellency Mrs Joan Rwabyomere at 58-59 Trafalgar Square, London WC2, this afternoon in order to bid farewell to Her Excellency upon relinquishing her appointment as High Commissioner for Uganda in London.

By command of Her Majesty, the Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps afterwards called upon His Excellency Lieutenant Colonel Bizwayo Newton Nkunika at 2 Palace Gate, London W8, in order to bid farewell to His Excellency upon relinquishing his appointment as High Commissioner for Zambia in London.

Buckingham Palace 

The Countess of Wessex, President, Breast Cancer Haven Guardians, this morning received Mr Nicholas Beazley upon assuming his appointment as Chairman of the Trustees.

Her Royal Highness, Patron, Disability Initiative, this afternoon received Mr Anthony Mallard upon relinquishing his appointment as Chairman.

Buckingham Palace 

The Princess Royal this morning visited Adwick Social Education Centre Horticultural Unit, Village Street, Adwick Le Street, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire (Mr David Moody).

Her Royal Highness later visited Chimo Holdings Cutlery Factory, White Rose Works, 61 Eyre Lane, Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

The Princess Royal this afternoon opened the Exchange Brewery Adsetts Partnership Building, Bridge Street, Sheffield.

Kensington Palace 

The Duke of Gloucester, Patron, the Guild of the Royal Hospital of St Bartholomew, this morning received Professor Christopher Hudson upon relinquishing his appointment as Chairman and Mr Andrew Phillips upon assuming the appointment.

St James’s Palace 

The Duke of Kent, President, Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, this morning visited the newly renovated headquarters at 67 Portland Place, London W1.

COURT CIRCULAR

The Queen held a Council at 11.15am.

There were present: the Rt Hon Andrew Lansley MP (acting for the President), the Rt Hon Gregory Barker MP (Minister of State, Department of Energy and Climate Change), the Rt Hon Mark Francois MP (Minister of State, Ministry of Defence) and the Rt Hon Damian Green MP (Minister of State, Ministry of Justice, jointly with the Home Office).

The Lord Hill of Oareford was sworn in as a member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council.

Mr Richard Tilbrook was in attendance as Clerk of the Council.

The Rt Hon Andrew Lansley MP had an audience of Her Majesty before the Council.

After the Council the Lord Hill of Oareford had an audience of The Queen, was sworn Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, kissed hands upon his appointment and received from Her Majesty the Seals of Office.

Buckingham Palace

The Princess Royal this afternoon visited Pextenement Cheese Company, Pextenement Farm, Eastwood, Todmorden, and was received by Mrs Kathryn Moreton-Deakin (Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire).

Her Royal Highness, President, Riding for the Disabled Association, later visited the Leeds Area Group at Gaetton Hill Farm, Wike Lane, Bardsey, Leeds, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire (Dr Ingrid Roscoe).

The Duke of Gloucester, Colonel-in-Chief, Royal Army Medical Corps, this morning received Colonel Simon Mellor upon relinquishing his appointment as Colonel Commandant and Brigadier Alistair Macmillan upon assuming the appointment.

St James’s Palace

The Duke of Kent, President of the Council, King Edward VII’s Hospital (Sister Agnes), this morning received the Lord Glenarthur (Chairman).

His Royal Highness, President, Commonwealth War Graves Commission, received Mr Alan Pateman-Jones (Director General) and Mrs Claire Samber (Secretariat Manager).

COURT CIRCULAR

Sandringham, Norfolk 

Divine Service was held in Sandringham Parish Church this morning.

The Bishop of Peterborough preached the Sermon.

Her Majesty presented The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Academic Excellence at Springwood High School, King’s Lynn, to Hannah Crosby, who was introduced into Her Majesty’s presence by Mr Andrew Johnson, the Headmaster.

Today being the Feast of the Epiphany, a Sung Eucharist was held in the Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace, when the customary offerings of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh were made on behalf of The Queen by Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Birdwood and Major Grant Baker (Gentlemen Ushers to Her Majesty).

The Bishop of London (Dean of Her Majesty’s Chapels Royal) was the Celebrant and presented the Offerings, assisted by the Reverend Prebendary William Scott (Sub-Dean of Her Majesty’s Chapels Royal) and the Reverend William Whitcombe (Priest in Ordinary).

The Queen’s Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard was on duty in the Chapel.
