Buckingham Palace 

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, with The Prince of Wales, today commenced a visit to the North West to mark Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee and were received upon arrival this morning at Manchester Road Railway Station, Burnley, by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire (the Lord Shuttleworth).

Her Majesty and Their Royal Highnesses drove to Finsley Gate Wharf and were received by the Mayor of Burnley (Councillor David Heginbotham) and the Chairman of British Waterways (Mr A. Hale).

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, with The Prince of Wales, embarked on a canal barge and moved along the canal viewing local regeneration projects.

Her Majesty and Their Royal Highnesses disembarked at Slater Terrace, Weavers’ Triangle, Burnley, and were received by Dame Julia Cleverdon (Special Adviser, The Prince’s Charities) and Mr C. Daggett (Editor, Burnley Express).

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, with The Prince of Wales, met young people associated with The Prince’s Charities and subsequently joined The Prince’s Charities Regeneration Summit.

Her Majesty addressed the Conference.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh afterwards drove through Burnley Town Centre to the University of Central Lancashire, Burnley College, Princess Way, Burnley, and were received by the Chairman of the University Board (Mr Brian Harris), the Vice-Chancellor of University of Central Lancashire (Dr Malcolm McVicar) and the Principal of Burnley College (Mr Hugh Bramwell).

Her Majesty, escorted by the Vice-Chancellor, and His Royal Highness, escorted by the Principal, toured the College, viewing exhibits, demonstrations and displays and meeting current and former students and members of staff.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were entertained to Luncheon this afternoon by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant and the Chairman of Burnley Football Club (Mr Barry Kilby) at Burnley Football Club, Turf Moor, Harry Potts Way, Burnley.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness later visited Accrington Market Hall, Peel Street, Accrington, and were received by the Mayor of Hyndburn (Mrs Collette McCormack) and the Chief Executive of Hyndburn Borough Council (Mr David Welsby).

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, escorted respectively by the Chief Executive and the Mayor, toured the Market Hall, viewing stalls and meeting stall holders and local business leaders.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness walked to Accrington Town Hall and attended a Reception given by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant and the Mayor and viewed a parade of charitable and community organisations from Lancashire.

The Prince of Wales this afternoon attended The Prince’s Charities Regeneration Summit at Victoria Mill, 39 Trafalgar Street, Burnley, and was received by Mr Rodney Swarbrick (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire).

The Duke of York this morning received representatives from the Forum of Young Global Leaders.

His Royal Highness this evening opened Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (United Kingdom) Limited, One Hyde Park, Knightsbridge, London SW1.

The Earl of Wessex, Trustee, this evening held a Dinner for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Buckingham Palace.

The Countess of Wessex this morning attended the Women of the Future Conference at the London Hilton on Park Lane, 22 Park Lane, London W1.

Her Royal Highness, Member, International Olympic Committee, and President, British Olympic Association, this afternoon attended the Olympic Flame Ceremony at the Acropolis, Athens.

The Princess Royal this evening attended a Dinner given by Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic at the Residence in Athens.

The Duke of Gloucester this morning visited the Exhibition entitled, “the English Prize: the Capture of the Westmorland, an Episode of the Grand Tour”, at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology, Beaumont Street, Oxford, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire (Mr Timothy Stevenson).

His Royal Highness, President, Crown Agents Foundation, this afternoon attended the Annual General Meeting and Reception at St James’s Palace.

St James’s Palace 

The Duke of Kent, Patron, Newbury Spring Festival, this evening attended a Concert in Englefield, Reading, Berkshire.

Princess Alexandra, Royal Patron, Children and Families Across Borders, this morning visited the International Spring Fair at Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street, London W8.

Her Royal Highness, Patron, Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild, this afternoon received Mrs Teresa Myers upon relinquishing her appointment as Chairman and Mrs Liza Jones upon assuming the appointment.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh this morning visited the “London as a Global Centre of Fashion” event to mark Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee in Bromley Town Centre and were received at Queen’s Gardens, Bromley, by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (Sir David Brewer) and the Mayor of Bromley (Councillor David McBride).

The Queen, escorted by the Mayor, toured fashion-themed “domes” and met London-based fashion designers, and The Duke of Edinburgh, escorted by Councillor Stephen Carr (Leader of Bromley Council), visited the Pavilion Leisure Centre marquee.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness afterwards visited the Jubilee Road Street Party marquee and met local residents and business representatives.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh later visited Glades Shopping Centre and Market Square, Bromley, and viewed art and fashion displays and met designers, retailers and local students.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh this afternoon visited St. Mark’s Church of England Academy, Acacia Road, Mitcham, and were received by the Principal (Mr. Chris Mallaband) and the Mayor of Merton (Councillor Gilli Lewis-Lavender).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness attended a Reception for local representatives and subsequently, escorted respectively by the Rt. Hon. Sir John Wheeler (Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London) and Wing Commander Michael Dudgeon (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London), met Achievers from South London.

Her Majesty, escorted by the Lord True (Leader of Richmond upon Thames Council) and His Royal Highness, escorted by the Mayor, toured the Recreation, Inspiration and Environment Zones, viewing displays, demonstrations and performances and meeting representatives from local groups, organisations and schools.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh drove slowly through Richmond Park to Holly Lodge and were received by Princess Alexandra and Mr. Ian Dodds (Event Organiser).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness attended a traditional English Afternoon Tea given by Ham and Petersham Women’s Institute at Holly Lodge.

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, travelled in State to the Palace of Westminster today to open the Session of Parliament.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness drove in a Carriage Procession, escorted by a Sovereign’s Escort of The Household Cavalry, under the command of Major Simon Deverell, The Blues and Royals, and were received at the Sovereign’s Entrance by the Earl Marshal and the Lord Great Chamberlain.

Guards of Honour were mounted at Buckingham Palace by The Queen’s Guard found by 1st Battalion Irish Guards, under the command of Major Tom Oakley, and at the Palace of Westminster by 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards, under the command of Major James Coleby.

A staircase party of The Household Cavalry was on duty at Victoria Tower, House of Lords.

Royal Salutes were fired in Green Park by The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, under the command of Major Mark Edward, and from the Tower of London Saluting Battery by the Honourable Artillery Company, under the command of Major Michael Joy.

The Imperial State Crown, the Cap of Maintenance and the Sword of State were conveyed previously to the House of Lords in a Carriage Procession, escorted by a Regalia Escort of The Household Cavalry.

Her Majesty’s Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms was on duty in the Prince’s Chamber and The Queen’s Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard was on duty in the Royal Gallery.

The Queen’s Bargemaster and Watermen were on duty.

The Ladies and Gentlemen of the Household and the Pages of Honour to The Queen (Lord Stanley, Andrew Leeming, Arthur Chatto and the Hon Charles Armstrong-Jones) were in attendance at the Palace of Westminster.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness returned to Buckingham Palace and were received by the Lord Chamberlain and the Vice-Chamberlain of the Household.

Fortune, Duchess of Grafton was received by The Queen this afternoon and delivered up the Badge and Star of the Order of the Garter worn by her husband, the late Duke of Grafton.
