Buckingham Palace

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh this morning attended a Service of Thanksgiving in Guildford Cathedral to mark the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Cathedral’s Consecration and were received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey (Mrs Timothy Goad), the Dean (the Very Reverend Victor Stock), the Bishop of Guildford (the Right Reverend Christopher Hill) and the Mayor of Guildford (Councillor Terence Patrick).

Her Majesty, escorted by the Dean, and His Royal Highness, escorted by the Bishop, viewed choir rehearsals and children’s arts and crafts activities and met representatives from the Cathedral, the University of Surrey, and local community and voluntary groups.

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, this afternoon visited East Surrey College, Redhill, and was received by the Chairman of the Corporation of Governors (Dr Barbara Spittle) and the Acting Principal (Mrs Jayne Dickinson).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were entertained to Luncheon by the Chairman of the Corporation of Governors and the Acting Principal.

The Queen afterwards toured the College, viewing media studios and the horticultural classroom, art and design displays, a theatrical make-up and hairdressing demonstration and spa therapies.

The Duke of Edinburgh viewed the Technology, Brick, and Wood Workshops and met representatives of the Student Union.

Her Majesty unveiled a plaque to officially open East Surrey College.

The Prince of Wales, on behalf of The Queen, held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace this morning.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were represented by Mr Charles Gray (Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps) at the Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Sir Hilary Synott (formerly British High Commissioner to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan) which was held in Winchester Cathedral, Hampshire, this afternoon.

The Prince of Wales, Patron, Swansea Valley Miners’ Appeal Fund, this afternoon met the rescue workers from the recent mining tragedy in Rhos, at the Community Centre, Plas Road, Rhos, Swansea, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of West Glamorgan (Mr Byron Lewis).

His Royal Highness, Patron, Swansea Valley Miners’ Appeal Fund, afterwards met bereaved families from the Welsh mine tragedy at Rhos Primary School, Neath Road, Rhos.

The Prince of Wales this evening received the Deputy Minister of Skills for the National Assembly for Wales (Mr Jeffrey Cuthbert AM).

The Duchess of Cornwall, Royal Colonel, 4th Battalion The Rifles, this morning took the salute at the Junior Non-Commissioned Officers Passing Off Parade, and afterwards opened the newly-renovated Serjeants’ Mess, Ward Barracks, Bulford Camp, Salisbury, Wiltshire.

The Princess Royal, President, UK Fashion and Textile Association, this morning visited Barker Shoes Limited, Station Road, Earls Barton, Northampton, on the occasion of its One Hundred and Thirtieth Anniversary, and was received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire (the Lady Juliet Townsend).

Her Royal Highness, President, The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, later opened the new Northamptonshire Carers’ Centre at 7 Regent Business Park, Booth Drive, Park Farm South, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness drove to Old Town, Margate, and were received by the Chairman of Thanet District Council (Councillor Douglas Clark).

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh walked through Old Town Square visiting businesses that have survived the recession and meeting business owners and local community groups, escorted respectively by Mrs. Madeline Homer (Community Services Manager, Thanet District Council) and Dr. S. McGonigal (Chief Executive, Thanet District Council).

Her Majesty was subsequently received by Councillor Mrs. Iris Johnson (Mayor of Margate), who introduced a group of veterans to The Queen.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness afterwards visited Turner Contemporary, the Rendezvous, Margate, and were received by the Chairman of Trustees (Mr. John Kampfner) and Ms. Victoria Pomery (Director).

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh toured the Galleries, hearing about the work of various artists and viewing activities involving children and young people, before attending a Reception with artworks participants, youth navigators and cultural ambassadors.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were subsequently entertained to Luncheon by the Chairman of Trustees.

The Queen, Patron, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, and The Duke of Edinburgh this afternoon visited the Lifeboat Station, the Rendezvous, Margate, were received by the Chairman of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (Admiral the Lord Boyce) and Mr. Paul Hodson (Lifeboat Operations Manager, Margate) and met the coxswain, crew and their families.
